Salary Range: $53,000 to $62,000

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

JOB SUMMARY

The Copywriter is the university’s in‑house authority on written storytelling that moves people to think, feel, and act. The role quickly translates research‑driven insights into clear, compelling language for various channels (e.g. print and digital advertising, websites, etc.) that reach a range of audiences including prospective students, alumni, donors, faculty, and staff. The Copywriter collaborates with Art Directors, Designers, and Marketers in creating printed, digital, video and social content which sets St. Thomas apart from our competition. The role is generally self-managing, requires persistent curiosity, and a keen ability to manage multiple streams of work reliably. This position simultaneously manages multiple projects of various complexity levels.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  •  Lead or participate in kickoff meetings to interrogate creative briefs—clarifying audience insight, strategic goals, and required outcomes before writing begins.
  • Co‑develop timely, insight‑driven concepts alone or with an assigned Art Director, iterating rapidly in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary setting.
  • Apply St. Thomas’ brand voice in writing persuasive channel‑specific copy for web, email, social, video/TV, print, newsletters.
  •  Present, revise, and finalize copy in response to stakeholder feedback, upholding brand standards while juggling multiple concurrent projects.
  • Cultivate and maintain deep knowledge of every academic college, school, and institutional initiative, ensuring copy related to each is accurate, resonant, and differentiated.
QUALIFICATIONS :

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Creative Writing or a related field
  • 3 years of experience
  • Knowledge of: Writing for diverse marketing assignments—as demonstrated through a creative portfolio—matters most. Skill and curiosity in persuasion, writing, grammar, and the business of creativity are also good signs of relevant talent. A Copywriter should be aware of current trends in advertising/marketing/design. And they should have experience using, and opinions about, working with AI to discern insights, as well as develop and edit copy. Strong interest and/or experience in the world of higher education also helps. 

This is a role for an experienced copywriter with an established portfolio, and an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.
