The Role: We are seeking a hands-on, dynamic Director of Billing, Credit and Collections with deep knowledge and experience leading billing, credit, and collections functions in a fast-paced environment. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's billing, credit, and collections operations. Responsibilities include managing customer credit limits, developing and implementing effective credit policies, and optimizing collection strategies to ensure timely and accurate payments. This leader will also provide ongoing development and support to our credit team and work collaboratively across departments to drive improvements in processes, analytics, and overall performance.

Areas of Responsibility :

  • Develop and implement credit policies and procedures to evaluate and approve the creditworthiness of new and existing customers.
  • Establish and monitor appropriate credit limits, adjusting as needed.
  • Collaborate with Sales to resolve credit-related issues and support account strategy.
  • Develop and execute effective collection strategies to improve cash flow and reduce outstanding balances.
  • Enhance collection processes through improved communication, follow-up, and escalation strategies.
  • Analyze aging reports and customer history to prioritize collection efforts.
  • Monitor collection activities and provide hands-on support and guidance for complex or high-risk accounts.
  • Research and resolve shipping, pricing, and payment discrepancies.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Credit and Collections team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Identify training needs and provide ongoing development opportunities to strengthen team capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Finance to establish effective credit terms, resolve disputes, and support sales goals while managing risk.
  • Prepare reports and analysis on accounts receivable, credit risk, and collection performance.
  • Identify and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and overall results.
  • Leverage systems and technology to streamline workflows and improve performance.
  • Support the Accounting team with month-end close and provide data for the year-end external audit.
  • Provide hands-on support with daily collections, cash application, and credit processing as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in billing, credit, and collections, including prior managerial experience (agriculture industry experience is a plus).
  • In-depth knowledge of credit risk management, collections strategies, and credit regulations.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills to collaborate effectively with both internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing credit policies and procedures.
  • Experience with customer trading platforms (e.g., iTrade) and ERP systems (JDE preferred).
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to thrive in a high-volume environment.
  • Detail-oriented, hands-on, and committed to continuous improvement.
