ZFA STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS is a mid-sized structural engineering firm founded in 1974 with five offices throughout Northern California, including Santa Rosa, San Francisco, Silicon Valley (Redwood City), Sacramento, and Napa. We pride ourselves on our employees, project types, and geographic diversity as well as our technical expertise and high level of service to our clients. The office sizes and connectivity are specifically designed to provide both the resources and project experience opportunities of a large firm, but with the nimbleness and mentoring of a smaller firm. Our Santa Rosa office, founded in 1974, is over 30 strong and is currently searching for an Engineer who can help us continue to expand within Northern California’s robust construction market spanning from San Luis Obispo to Lake Tahoe to the Oregon border and all that lies between including urban Bay Area sites. We are also licensed and deliver projects in 20 other states primarily but not limited to the Western United States.

About the Role - An Engineer is expected to hold the following job responsibilities and desired qualities:

• Possess the primary daily design, organization, and technical skills necessary to conduct work with direction and independence where appropriate.
• Exercise maturity and sound judgment in decision making, anticipate issues, and solve project-related problems.
• Communicate budget issues proactively.
• Fulfill the role of lead engineer responsible for financial and technical aspects of small to medium-sized projects and participate actively in teams for large projects.
• Provide high-quality project construction documents, calculations, and reports, and serve as effective support for project team members.
• Effectively use and help improve in-house project tools (including 3D Revit modeling), policies, systems, and procedures
• Mentor entry-level designers.
• Coordinate with owners, clients, other consultants, review agencies, and contractors.
• Attend project meetings and site visits in person and virtually.
• Remain current on code issues and expand engineering knowledge by reviewing technical information and new construction methods or products, attending seminars, etc.
• Utilize timely communication to inform clients and teams of the ongoing status of projects.
• Participate in staff training as requested.

Responsibilities - Applicant requirements for the Engineer position include:

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in civil, architectural, or structural engineering. A structural engineering master’s degree is a plus.
• Professional registration as a licensed Civil Engineer is desired but not required with plans to obtain.
• Two to six years of experience with multiple project sizes, types, and construction materials, including timber, concrete, and/or steel. Masonry is a plus.
• Basic knowledge and understanding of engineering and construction principles and practice is required.
• Must have the ability and desire to learn and effectively utilize project engineering skills as well as being personable to maintain positive peer-to-peer client relationships for ZFA.
• Desired computer/analysis software skills: REVIT, Excel, Enercalc, ETABS, RISA, SAFE, RAM Steel
